Fitzroy Falls Fire Trail Marathon with 10km and 5km Bush Runs & 5km Walk

Back in the 1990's the small rural village of Fitzroy Falls (part of the Meryla areas, population 300), used to have an annual "Waratah Festival". To add to the attractions it was decided to introduce a Marathon event on the Saturday, with the course to be mapped out in the magnificent Morton National Park. In addition to introducing runners from out of the area to this special place, there was a secondary consideration - raising funds for the local Bush Fire Brigades.

The course is undulating, mostly on fire trails. There is a very difficult downhill section (appropriately called Gunrock Falls) at about the 10km mark and in most years there is water across parts of the track.
