Gatorade Battle of the Paddles

The inaugural Gatorade Battle of the Paddles will be held on Hamilton Island from June 14 – 18, in partnership with Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) and the Australian Outrigging Canoe Association (AOCRA).

Run over four exciting days, competitive outriggers will be joined by athletes from three other popular paddle disciplines; Surf Ski (Single and Double), Stand-Up Paddling and Board Paddling.

The new races include:

~ Downwind surf ski races for junior, open and masters categories, including a special long-distance course from Lindeman Island to Hamilton Island’s Catseye Bay. Separate for ocean skis and spec skis.
~ 5km Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) course for junior, open and masters categories;
~ Board paddling races for both junior, open and masters categories;
~ A range of rigorous and challenging races await each of these new divisions.

Surf Ski (single and double) entrants will take part in a gruelling 25km downwind race starting from Lindeman Island and through the islands of the Whitsundays to Hamilton Island’s Catseye Beach. In addition to this race there will also be a challenging 16km race starting from Catseye Beach and around the surrounding island before finishing up at Catseye Beach.

The Paddle board division will take to the water to compete in a 16km marathon around the local Whitsunday island.

The 5km SUP M-shape course will be raced in the calm waters of Catseye Beach.
