Lea Xstream Kayak Race

EVENT
The kayak 4 Playv Lea Race, run by the Derwent Canoe Club, is on again for 2013. October 19th on the Lea River, Northern Tasmania.

FORMAT
Teams of 2 paddlers will race against the clock down the grade 4 creek.

LOCATION
The Lea River is located in Tasmaina’s Northwest, nestled below Cradle Mountain near Moina. The river is approximately 17 km South of Wilmot on Cradle Mountain Rd (C132), turn right onto Moina Rd. This is a narrow gravel road with a number of residences. Please show courtesy by driving slowly. Follow this until you cross the bridge over the Iris River. There is a large flat area to the right where event HQ will be set up. The road beyond the next gate is through private property. Do not continue past this point without the owners consent. If the gate is locked there is a vehicle track to the left leading into a forested block with a gate. Follow this track past the gate (it is not possible to drive as there are logs over the road), and up through the forest. Soon you will come to a logged / plantation area and the main logging road. Turn left and follow this road down the hill for a couple of hundred meters where a vehicle track leaves it and enters the forest on the right. Turn right and follow this track to the river. (This is a pretty big hike) The map you will require if unfamiliar with the area is “Forth 1:100 000?.
