Mountain Man

The Mountain Man event is a multi-sport race comprising of road cycling, mountain running, mountain biking and kayaking. This event is open to individuals and 3 person teams.

The first cycle leg from Blaketown, Greymouth, comprises of a 500m run from the start line located at the Southern Breakwater Viewing Platform to the bike stands. Then a ride through Greymouth and up the spectacular Coast Road to Barrytown. This leg offers a number of good size hill climbs, along with a good deal of fast down hills a distance of just under 33km.

At Barrytown competitors pull into the transition and prepare for the mountain run, "Goat Race track" which traverses the legendary Croesus Crossing across the Paparoa Range. These peaks separate Barrytown and Blackball, the 19km track will give any would be Coast to Coast athlete an excellent workout. At the end of the mountain run section a waits a short 9km mountain bike ride from the end of the Croesus Crossing down through Blackball to the Grey River. Finally the 25km kayak leg down the mighty Grey River passes directly through the historic Brunner Mine site and under a large suspension bridge spanning the rugged valley walls. This is a must see when visiting the Coast.

The finish line is located back in Greymouth at the Blaketown Lagoon.
