The Mt Baw Baw Mountain Bike Festival celebrates all elements of mountain biking with a Victorian downhill series round, a cross country endurance race and a night short course event. The Victorian Downhill Series (VDHS) is an ultra competitive series of which the Baw Baw event is round two. The DH1 trail descends 400m in altitude in just under 1.5km from the Baw Baw Village following the renowned ‘jeep track’ until it leaves the snow gums to descend steeply in a series of switchbacks along what used to be a ski run before plummeting into the forrest for some massive jumps and the run to the finish.
The 4 hour mountain bike endurance race on Saturday utilises a 8km loop that climbs out of the village to the summit of Mt Baw Baw before descending on some beautiful single track to the Nordic Bowl before another climb up and over the summit ridge line and out towards the National Park once again on some awesome single track. The return via the Village trail culminates back at the village after descending the challenging Mueller’s Trail. The enduro is all about completing as many laps as you can in the 4 hour timeframe either as a solo rider or in a team.
New for this Summer is the night time short course eliminator where riders will compete over a short course including single track descents and a moderate climb with the last competitor home for that lap is eliminated until only the victor remains. Bike lights are a necessity for this pitch black event.
