Honour the Kokoda Spirit as you and your team mates run or trek the tough 15km or 30km course in 9 hours through the Dandenong Ranges in Eastern Victoria. Following the Kokoda Spirit philosophy, our Melbourne Challenge is a team event so you must enter a team of 2, 3 or 4.

Starting in the valley at Ferntree Gully Picnic Ground, the 30km route encompasses the Kokoda Memorial Walk and tests your stamina on the 1000 steps. You will find that the continuing ascents are not without reward. When reaching the summit at Kalorama Park at the top of Mount Dandenong you will take in breathtaking views of Melbourne City and the Silvan Reservoir. The 15km course follows the same route but turns at an earlier point.

Our Junior Kokoda Challenge Melbourne Event is definitely one to mark in the school calendar. In a break from traditional school sports where teachers are barracking from the sidelines, the Junior Kokoda Challenge Melbourne Event requires teachers to join as a member of the five person team to complete the 30km Challenge. Whilst training for and during the event, students are both physically and emotionally fatigued and their leaders must develop new strategies to motivate and keep their group going. But there is nothing to beat the feeling of satisfaction that comes from setting a goal and achieving that goal against all odds.

For those students who get the trekking bug, they can compete in the Kokoda Challenge Stan Bisset Cup , a 96km school-based endurance team event held every July on the Gold Coast.

The Melbourne Kokoda Challenge is the main fundraiser for the Melbourne branch of The Kokoda Youth Foundation's 'On the Right Track' Youth Program for Melbourne teenagers.

Registration opens June 2015. Go to www.kokodachallenge.com, https://www.facebook.com/Kokoda.Challenge.Association or phone (07) 5539 4141.
