Summertime is in full swing and so is the XTERRA World Tour with two important Gold-level races this Sunday in Italy and the Dominican Republic.
With just three races left in the inaugural 10-stop XTERRA Pan America Tour every point counts and many of the key players in the Pan Am Pro Series have traveled to Barahona for Sunday’s competition, including tour leader and reigning XTERRA World Champion Josiah Middaugh.
“Happy to head to Barahona and discover a new spot,” said Middaugh, who welcomed XTERRA Argentina to the tour earlier this year. “It’s the spirit of XTERRA to get out and live more, to travel to amazing places like this and enjoy the environment.”
Joining Middaugh in paradise are fellow Americans Ryan Ignatz and Branden Rakita, Costa Rican star Rom Akerson, the young kiwi Kieran McPherson, Puerto Rican Fabian Roman, and home country favorites Kevin Martinez and Leandro Sanchez.
The women’s race features Pan Am Pro Series points leader Suzie Snyder, No. 2 Maia Ignatz, No. 3 Kara LaPoint, No. 4 Sabrina Gobbo, and four other women in the top 11 including Debby Sullivan (7), Myriam Guillot-Boisset (8), Laura Mira Diaz (10), and Katharine Carter (11). Ana Arias from Cuba and Katherine Garrido from the Dominican Republic will be making their XTERRA debuts.
Pending wifi capabilities we’ll be bringing you live elite race updates on twitter @xterraoffroad starting at 7:30 a.m. EST and will post stories and photos to our Facebook page all weekend.
