Moreton Bay Region Set to Host All-New Action-Packed Mountain Bike Series in 2017

March 6th, 2017

MORETON BAY—In breaking news, In2Adventure, the team who brought you the highly acclaimed Snowies Mountain Bike Festival and the ITU XTri World Championships, is set to launch an all-new Mountain Bike Series in South East Queensland.  Hosted in the spectacular Moreton Bay Region, this series is set to explode onto the mountain bike stage in 2017.

Hosted at Murrenbong Scout Camp, just 30 minutes north of Brisbane, the series includes three key events, kicked off by the much-anticipated revival of old favourite – the LunarC 8hr XC MTB Enduro.  The series will also see the introduction of some all-new events, including a ‘back to back’ format and weekend stage race for all comers.

Robyn Lazenby, Event Director at In2adventure told us, “The launch of the MoreTon Bay MTB Series is a dream come true for us.  To be able to host a three-race series on home soil on spectacular trails that our In2Adventure family know and love is a fantastic opportunity.

We have long known that the Moreton Bay Region, north of Brisbane is a fantastic adventure destination and with the backing of Moreton Bay Regional Council this new series will enable us to showcase the region to athletes from across the state and the nation.”

When asked about the format of the series it seems that riders can expect something a little different, “The series caters for elite riders, weekend warriors and families.  With camping and accommodation on site it is really easy to come along and enjoy a weekend of great riding, camping and awesome times with your mates or family.

The three events are uniquely different and the launch of a weekend stage race is something we’ve had in the pipeline for some time.

We wanted to take the fun, excitement and challenge of a stage race and make it accessible to all levels of mountain bikers.  We wanted to create a stage event where riders didn’t have to train for months on end to be a part of it.   Having said that, the stage race will be a challenge, but it will be achievable with some skills and training.” Simon Lazenby, Race Director told us.

And it seems one of South East Queensland’s most uniquely exciting mountain bike races is set to be revived in 2017 with the relaunch of the LunarC 8hr XC MTB Enduro. “Yes, we have had a LOT of enquiries about when LunarC would be back and after some time off while we focussed on the hosting of the ITU World Championships, LunarC is back!

I am personally so excited that all those Lunartic Mountain Bikers out there will once again be able to indulge their passion for the ‘Dark Side’ and enjoy some night riding madness.  LunarC is well known for the unique mountain bike experience it offers and it always includes a few quirky revelations that only a night event of this nature can offer.  It is one of our favourite events so stay tuned for some extra surprises in 2017.”

Moreton Bay Regional Council Sport and Recreation Spokesperson Councillor Darren Grimwade said he couldn’t be more excited for the region to host its own Mountain Bike Series and to showcase some of the area’s best MTB trails. “Locals have known for a long time that the Moreton Bay Region is home to some of the most exciting mountain biking in South East Queensland, and to have our own MoreTon Bay Series means we get to share it with the nation’s elite and most passionate riders,” Cr Grimwade said.

“As someone who’s a fan of extreme sports, I can’t wait to for the MoreTon Bay Series to kick into gear!

Cr Grimwade said beyond the fanfare, the MoreTon Bay Series would also inject more than $710,000 into local businesses, cafes, restaurants and accommodation providers.

“We have so much to offer in the Moreton Bay Region from the beaches to the hinterland, and with events like this, it’s an opportunity to share those experiences with visitors from across the state and country.

“It’s exactly the reason why council has invested more than $32.5 million in 2016/17 towards parks, recreation and sport in the Moreton Bay Region.”

Including some of the best MTB trails in the Moreton Bay Region the series is set to challenge elite riders while also offering thrilling events and courses for weekend warriors and families and there’s even some all new events for junior riders and kids as well.

Riders can take part solo or hook up with some mates and share the riding across teams of two or three.
