Even though the XTERRA Georgia Trail Run Series recently ended, race director Tim Schroer is already planning for the new 2017-2018 season.

XTERRA Georgia will kick off the first race of its season on September 23rd with XTERRA Harbins Park 10k and 5k in Dacula, Georgia.

“We had an absolute blast this year,” said race director Tim Schroer. “We are so excited the 2017-18 season is kicking off in a few weeks.”

XTERRA UNG, which will be held on May 19th in Oakwood, Georgia, will be added to this year’s series.

“We have tweaked the schedule just a touch so it will actually be an eight-race series this next year,” said Schroer. “We’ve also added a shorter distance to the XTERRA Georgia Thrill In The Hills Trail Run as well so people who want to experience one of the best trail systems in the Southeastern US but who are not quite ready to tackle a half or full can still do so.”

The XTERRA Georgia Trail Run Series is beloved by locals as well as those who travel from other states to participate in the trail races.

Simone Bergese, has been a standout performer in the XTERRA Georgia Trail Run Series, especially in the longer races.

“The trails Tim has picked for the races are awesome and with different levels of difficulty,” said Bergese. “You can get crazy hills or nice flat fast trails. Some races, you are under the rain and some under a very hot sun. The organization is great and there is always something for everyone.”

Bergese is the Executive Winemaker and Director of Operations at Chateau Elan Winery, in Braselton, Georgia.

Bergese had a few PRs this year, but even more fun for him was that his wife and daughters joined him. His daughters did the shorter runs.

“On the last race of the series,” said Bergese, “My four-year old and eight-year old daughters were both on the podium in the nine and under category. That was a nice family picture.”
