XTERRA Michigan Trail Series Continues with XTERRA Fort Custer

On September 30th, the XTERRA Michigan Trail Series will continue with XTERRA Fort Custer, in Fort Custer Recreational Area.

The run will be held near Eagle Lake and will take you through beautiful shaded single track, and of course, an abundance of autumn colors. The weather has been about 80 degrees in the day with cool mornings and evenings, for perfect racing weather.The Fort Custer Recreation Area includes over 22 miles of trails, three lakes, and the Kalamazoo River. With over 200 campsites, the race is a perfect excuse to get away for the weekend.

After the race, trail runners can recover and watch the XTERRA Fort Custer off-road triathlon and duathlon.

The 6.4 mile race is part of the XTERRA Michigan Trail Series, which includes XTERRA Lake Superior Shore Run, which was held last weekend, and XTERRA Ionia, which will take place in July. To be eligible for the Regional Champion title and free entry into the 2018 XTERRA National Trail Run Championship, you must compete in at least two of the races in the series. On September 16th, over 160 runners showed up to take on the 23rd annual Lake Superior Shore Run 5k and 21k races.

The men’s 21k was extremely close with Patrick Huffer finishing just four seconds in front of runner up, Keefer Edwards, who finished the course in a speedy 1:34:58, which is roughly a 7:15 minute mile pace. Clint Slack finished third in 1:38:31.

On the women’s side, Mandy Dye finished in 1:39:07 with runner up Natalie Napolillo less than five minutes behind in 1:43:50. Abbie Debiak was third in 1:52:55.
