XTERRA Fort Custer September 30th

On September 30th, XTERRA Fort Custer, is a perfect opportunity to challenge yourself on rugged trails and view nature at its finest.

“The weather has been about 80 degrees in the day with cool mornings and evenings, for perfect racing weather,” said race director, John Ploeg. “The water temperature is still in good shape and we have a lot of folks taking advantage of the weather and extending their racing season.”

The swim in Eagle Lake will be a two-lap, clockwise, 800 meter course followed by an 11.5 mile bike ride through the more difficult section of the trails.

“The mountain bike trails are expertly maintained by the Southwest Michigan Mountain Bike Association, but it’s a challenging ride,” said Ploeg. “The 3.1 mile run will traverse through wooded forests with few wide open areas. The Fort Custer Recreation area is beautiful and right now participants will get a great color ride as many of the leaves are changing colors.”

For those who wish to skip the swim, the XTERRA Fort Custer Duathlon will consist of a two-mile run, the 11.5 mile bike, and the final 3.1 mile run.

Some of the proceeds of the race will go to the Southwest Michigan Mountain Bike Association (SWMMBA).
