T-25 Days Until XTERRA Trail Run Worlds

For runners, the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship is a perfect race. Held in one of the most beautiful spots on the planet, the challenging 21K course takes you around and over a mountain, provides incredible views of the Pacific Ocean, and winds you through rainforests of stunning single track. Typically the course at Kualoa Ranch is closed to the public except for the day of the race – December 3rd, 2017.

Even if you haven’t raced the course, you have probably seen it. Kualoa Ranch is the setting for movies, including Jurassic Park, Jurassic World, 50 First Dates, and Hunger Games. Athletes who compete in XTERRA Trail Run Worlds have exclusive access to what is commonly called, “the back lot of Hawaii.”

However, XTERRA Trail Run Worlds is first and foremost an XTERRA, meaning you will be challenged by mother nature as well as some of the best trail runners in the world.

Remember, this is the course that saw 2014 IAU 100K World Champ and 2011 World Mountain Running Champ Max King cruise to victory four times; fellow US Mountain Running Champ Patrick Smythe win three times; and 2:35 marathoner Polina Carlson and adventure runner Kimber Mattox each win twice.

Even if you aren’t one of the fastest athletes in the world, you can still stand beside them at the start of the XTERRA Trail Run World Champs. Unlike many races of this caliber you don’t have to qualify. You only need to enter.

If the 21K isn’t quite your thing, the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship also includes a 10K trail run, a 5K trail run/walk, an adventure walk, and an Outrigger XTERRA Kids Sprint.

On Saturday, the day before the race, Paul Mitchell will host two sessions of XTERRA University at the Waikiki Beach Walk. one at 10 a.m. the other at 2pm. Elite runners will offer expert advice on trail running and preparation for the race. The clinic, presented by Paul Mitchell, is free and open to runners of all ages and skill levels. Each session will allow time for runners to ask questions of the featured speakers.

Race day will also feature the Paul Mitchell Cut-a-Thon. Pro stylists from Paul Mitchell will be cutting hair from 9:00am until 1pm for just $15, and 100% of that will go to the Challenged Athletes Foundation – helping physically challenged athletes reach their athletic goals.

Finally, after the race, enjoy the celebration at Wisp Restaurant and Lounge in Honolulu. The party will start at 6:30 pm and run until 9:30. Enjoy the specially priced XTERRA menu (prepared fresh) for about $15 per person and happy hour drink prices on domestic beers and wine. Valet parking is available for $5.

Special discount rates are available for military living on Oahu.
