XTERRA SoCal Trail Run Series Heats Up

The XTERRA SoCal Trail Run series is one of the most popular series out there and for good reason. When most of the country is covered in snow, the trails in Southern California are at their best. Last year, the XTERRA SoCal Series drew more than 4,000 trail runners, who experienced the natural beauty of coastal regions from Los Angeles to San Diego. Point Mugu, Laguna Beach, and Topanga State Park are just a few of the regions’ epic trail systems that will take you from foggy beaches to sun-drenched canyons.

The XTERRA SoCal series has also been full of fantastic performances. In 2017, Anthony Fagundes set course records at the XTERRA Black Mountain 15K and the XTERRA Point Mugu 18K. He was 5th at the XTERRA Trail Run National Championship in September and ran 2:25 at the California International Marathon.

So far in the 2017-2018 season, Fagundes won the XTERRA Point Mugu 18K by over 10 minutes, the XTERRA Topanga Turkey Trot 15K by four minutes, and the XTERRA Crystal Cove by over six minutes.

He will be running the Boston Marathon in April and will then be on the trails the rest of the season training for his first 50-mile trail run.

Former pro triathlete, Samantha McGlone has also shown up at the start of XTERRA SoCal races. McGlone represented Canada at the 2004 Athens Olympics, and she won the 2006 70.3 World Championship.

This weekend, the XTERRA SoCal Trail series heads to Boney Mountain, which is the most remote event of the series. It’s also one of the hilliest and features rugged water crossings.

“We are expecting a lot of new growth on the trail due to our recent rain,” said race director, Brennan Lindner. “That’s a nice symbol of hope after the rough year we’ve had in southern California. Our hearts go out to our neighbors in Santa Barbara.”

The next race in the series is XTERRA Black Mountain Trail Run on April 4th. Learn more at www.xterraplanet.com/trailrun.
