Inov-8 Coastal Classic - Event Wrap Up

2012 saw an increase in the field that would ensure a record number of runners participated in the inov-8 Coastal Classic. The talk leading up to race day is always about the weather and condition of the Coast Track, however any worries about the state of the track would have been alleviated a few kilometres in to the run as the course was close to ideal with dry, dusty and fast conditions.

The self-seeding start worked well again in 2012, with all runners able to run freely in the early stages through the single track sections of the course.

Once emerging out in to the open a strong tailwind pushed the runners northward through the beach section at Garie, Wattamolla and on towards the technical sections of Marley. Aid stations were positioned at these three sites allowing participants the opportunity to refuel for the next section to come.

After the final aid station at South Bundeena, all runners faced a final sandy part of the track and a short run through Bundeena before completing the course beside Bundeena RSL.

Congratulations to Matt Webster who crossed the line first in 2:35:42 and to Shona Stephenson who broke the course record to finish in a blistering time of 2:49:14. Source | Back to News
