Kathmandu 12hr/24hr - Event Wrap, Photos and Results

The Kathmandu Max12HR kicked off at 6:30am with mild temperatures, sunshine and glass like conditions on Wallis Lake for the first 6.5km kayak leg. Chris and Michelle Delaney set the early pace, proving that orange coloured bathtubs can be paddled at over 6km an hour – they finished the leg in an impressive 55 minutes. The second leg, a coasteer along Seven Mile Beach strung out the field as they made their way South towards Elizabeth Beach. On route to transition 2, a scenic but brutal obstacle awaited the competitors – a hike along the famous Booti Walking Track taking competitors on a 120m vertical climb past Booti Hill, a well-known launching point for Para gliders!

24hr
The 24hr event kicked-off at the leisurely time of 11am – first discipline was a kayak leg going from Forster to Coomba Park. From the start the gun teams were faced with the option of collecting a bonus point on the kayak leg – a rewarding but pain in the arse one located 1km past the transition.

At transition 1 teams went from kayak to bike, the biggest challenge coming in the form of CP7 on route to the rogaine – a monster climb up to Whoota lookout but a rewarding view of the spectacular Great Lakes area.
