New adventure festival secures government backing

In an exciting day for adventure racing and the sports of mountain biking, trail running and kayaking, a new adventure festival has captured the attention of the government and secured backing of $350,000 over four years.

State Member for Gippsland East, Tim Bull, has announced that if the Coalition is successful on November 29 it will contribute $350,000 over four years to a new adventure festival.

The festival, to be officially launched early December, will be held in Victoria’s East Gippsland in October of 2015. Focused on some of the regions’ most exciting and untouched natural features, it will include a weekend of events catering to everyone from elite athletes to weekend warriors to children and families. Key events including adventure racing, mountain biking, trail running and kayaking will shape the program, and will be complimented by food and attraction based activities.

Excited about his commitment Mr Bull said “This festival will bring together the world of adventure sports to compete in ultimate adventure challenges, all held in one of the most picturesque and diverse nature based destinations in Victoria.”

Mr Bull’s sentiments were reciprocated with Race Director, Andrew O’Loughlin of Limelight Sports, adding “we have created a weekend which allows us to celebrate all of the sports of adventure racing in one ultimate festival. We aim for this to be ‘the’ adventure occasion which brings the adventure community together, from all disciplines, their support teams, friends and families. We cannot wait to launch the festival, and to talk with you all more about it.”

East Gippsland Marketing Manager, Karly McCaskill, who developed the proposal for the festival and has played an integral part in developing the concept, added “there is no other comprehensive adventure festival that provides the best and most challenging events for the three categories of competitors including mountain biking, trail running and kayaking.”

More details surrounding the festival will be shared on Friday, December 5, when the festival is officially launched.
