Shimano Grand Prix mountain bike racing is all be about the thrill of the climb and the rush of the descents.

We want our racers to have fun, and realise that bikes rule, and riding bikes might be the best days of your life!

With events across NSW, ACT, QLD and VIC, each race offers a lap-based DISTANCE challenge that is completely tailored to the individual race track we’re on.

Win prizes, plus bonus Rocky Trail Rewards with our new pace-based points system. Competitors will be able to accumulate points across all our cross-country events, including our marathon and ultra-endurance events!

The Shimano MTB GP Format

The Format

The Shimano Grand Prix events are classic lap-based mountain bike races with 3 race distance classifications, Hero (long), Adventure (medium) and Challenge (short).

Courses will be designed to be between 7km and 10km long with ample overtaking opportunities distributed around the whole lap.

The classifications will be approximately 75km, 50 kms and 25kms. The exact number of laps will be announced during in the rider’s brief. The exact distance may vary based on the lap distance at any specific venue.

The races have Age Group Categories for solos and pairs teams in all the distance challenges. There will also be four specialty Awards including KOM/QOM, as well as outright male and female titles in the three distance classifications with Winners number plates. Fastest lap times among the juniors male and female outright will receive race entries as part of Rocky Trail’s ongoing grassroots development support.

The races also offer eBike categories in the Adventure distance.

Get a taste for mountain bike racing! This classification is designed to be not all about fitness, but rewards overall bike skills and determination to make it a fun day out on rocky trails.

The Adventure

Total Distance ~50km

Looking for a more challenging ride? Our Adventure Distance is the way to go. Do more laps and test your limits! Make this a smashfest or a fun day out.

The Hero

Total Distance ~75km

This is where pros, semi-pros and weekend warriors race. Hard. It will put your endurance and skills to the test and make your mark in the Hero Distance results.

Mt Stromlo Shimano GP – ACT

The Stromlo Shimano MTB GP kicks off the series in March and is always a firm favourite with all our Rocky Trail Racers!

Awaba Shimano GP – NSW

The Shimano MTB GP heads to Lake Macquarie NSW and the epic Awaba Mountain Bike Track. We had National champions battle it out in 2022, who will be the hero in 2023 and rise to the challenge?

SATUrDAY 1st July, 2023

Logan Daisy Hill Shimano GP – QLD

We are planning 3 GP’s in QLD and for the first race we head to the awesome Daisy Hill MTB Park in Logan. Originally scheduled for the Sunday, we will race on Saturday 1st July. The changed date is to accommodate needs of a fellow event organiser in SEQ. It will be a cracker!

This is Round 4 and the second of ur Queensland GP’s – we race on the Sunshine Coast and the ‘sweet’ Sugar Bag MTB Trails.

The Shimano Grand Prix mountain bike races bring back classic lap racing in 2023 with a set of distance challenges on short-course circuits. We return to the Haunted Hills MTB Park for another spooky Halloween Racing Weekend. The Grand Prix will offer 3 race distances – The Hero (longest), The Adventure (middle) and The Challenge (shortest).
