Baeza, Carlson Win XTERRA Gunstock Half Marathon

Polina Carlson and Humberto Baeza each won their division in the XTERRA Gunstock Half Marathon on the trails. In the men’s race, Humberto Baeza from Honolulu finished in 1:35:15 or 7:16 pace for the half marathon. Samuel Bybee from Laie was second in 1:39:34 and Christian Durney from Laie was third in 1:44:25.

Two-time XTERRA Trail Run World Champ, Polina Carlson won in 1:40:24, just five seconds ahead of Jill Thompson, who finished in 1:40:29. Shawna Ping was third in 1:50:52.

Thompson, 37, was born and raised in New Hampshire and ran in college at Georgetown University, which is one of the top NCAA Division I running programs in the country.

“I have four kids and running has always been my outlet,” said Thompson. “It was such a prominent part of my life for so long and I’m ready to get back to it.”

We are looking forward to seeing both Carlson and Thompson race together again at the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship in Kualoa Ranch on December 3rd.

In the 5K, Matthew Manley won the men’s race in 21:01, and Cindy Anderson won for the women in 20:45, which is a new course record.

The XTERRA Gunstock half marathon and 5K were run on the trails of a real working ranch. The half marathon is timed perfectly as a great training run for the Honolulu Marathon in December, and the 5k option is geared towards sprinters and beginners.
