XTERRA Runs through Winter Pamela-Xterra Tue, 01/08/2019 - 08:46 XTERRA races in Alabama and Arizona get the new year going...

With three XTERRA Trail Runs in the next month, winter is sure to heat up quickly. Whether you want to build up base miles or your base of friends and training buddies, January is a perfect time to hit the dirt.

On January 19th, don’t miss XTERRA Coldwater Mountain in Anniston, Alabama. You can choose between an 8K or 15K course, both on red dirt single track designed especially for mountain biking and running. With weather in the 40s to 50s this time of year, Alabama is at its running and racing prime.

“One of my favorite things about our XTERRA Alabama series is our family-friendly atmosphere,” said race director Glenn Ingram. “The series allows runners of all ages and abilities to enjoy the trails together. Seeing the next generation of trail runners embracing the sport we love brings us great joy!”

On February 3rd, XTERRA heads west to XTERRA McDowell Mountain in Fountain Hills, Arizona. With 7K and 23K options, the event is perfect for beginners as well as endurance athletes. The 23K course winds out on Pemberton Trail and then climbs toward Dixie Mine through cholla forests and fields of beaver tail cacti. The 7K loop follows the rocky but beautiful Scenic Trail. Located a short distance from Tempe, XTERRA McDowell Mountain is a perfect close-to-home adventure.

The following weekend on February 9th, XTERRA heads back to ‘Bama for the XTERRA Cheaha 8/15K. High-pointers take note that Bunker Tower on Mt. Cheaha (2400 feet) is the highest altitude in the state. For those athletes more interested in the climb, you won’t be disappointed as the views from the course are breathtaking.
