Watkins, Moisan win XTERRA Black Canyon 21K
Luke Watkins and Catherine Moisan won the XTERRA Black Canyon half-marathon trail race just outside of Phoenix, Arizona on Sunday.
Watkins crossed the line in 1:29:47, a full 10-minutes faster than runner-up Brian King. In the women’s race, Moisan took the tape in 2:03:38, 12-minutes ahead of Melissa McWhirter in second.
The point-to-point half marathon started on Table Mesa Road in Black Canyon City and followed the Black Canyon Trail to Rock Springs Café.
It was the fifth and final race in the 2018-2019 XTERRA Arizona Trail Series which kicked off the season last October with the XTERRA Estrella Mountain Trail Run. With the end of the season comes the recognition of the XTERRA Arizona Regional Champs (listed below) who earned the most points in their age groups. The winners receive free entry into the XTERRA Trail Run National Championship half-marathon in Ogden, Utah this September.
The day also included a 10K race, which was won by Joshua Judd (42:38) and Abbie Tuomi (46:46), and a 6K captured by Jeff Rensel (33:20) and Helene Charles (38:58).
