Port Stephens MultiSport Festival - Course Change Update

TreX Port Stephens and Trail Run Australia Tomaree courses have been amended due to localised flooding.

With the impact of weather events throughout the Hunter Region, one trail on the TreX Port Stephens and Trail Run Australia Tomaree course has become unusable due to localised flooding.  Although Skid Pan Trail, makes up only 500m of the course it is a key link between Anna Bay Boreline Road and Big Rocky Trail.  After a full course inspection, the remainder of the course remains unaffected by the weather and is in great condition with many trails being recently graded.

Although we fully understand that a course change is not ideal, we also fully understand the impact a late cancellation of the event would have on participants.  So, over the past few weeks, the team have been working closely with NSW Parks and Wildlife service, and the good news is that an alternate route for both courses has been identified and approved.

The Revised Course

The new course will bypass Skid Pan Trail and will take in the eastern ends of Big Rocky Trail and Anna Bay Boreline Road.

What Does the Change Mean for Me as a Participant?

The team have worked hard to try to keep the courses as close as possible to the advertised distances, however, some of the distances have had to be amended.  These include:

TreX Cross Triathlon Standard & Sprint Course

The MTB lap which was previously a 12.5km lap is now a 14.5km lap.  This means the total distances are now:

  • TreX Standard Distance MTB: 29km
  • TreX Sprint Distance MTB: 14.5km

The good news is that the additional 2km on each lap is open, graded fire trail, so this section will be fast and easy riding and shouldnt make a big difference to ride times or rider experience.

Junior and Dirt Kids courses remain unchanged.

Trail Run Australia Half Marathon and Mid Distance Course

  1. Half Marathon

Th distance for the Half Marathon course has increased by 500m and is now 21.6km.

  • Mid Distance Course | 12.5k
  • The 11.5k course now includes an additional 1km of trails for a total distance of 12.5km.  Once again, the majority of the additional distance is on open, graded fire trail, except for one hill which links Anna Bay Boreline Road to Big Rocky Trail, so although the distance will be longer it should only have a minor impact on run times and runner experience.

  • 6k Fun Run
  • The 6k Fun Run course remains unchanged.

    Athletes Guide

The athletes guide is currently be updated and will be published shortly so please stay tuned.

    Thank You

We know that changes can be disappointing, however, as we hope you will understand, making changes is not something we take lightly as we fully understand the impact on participants.

We would like to say a very special thank you to NSW Parks and Wildlife Service who have supported us to be able to make this change and utilise the new trails at short notice.

And most importantly we would like to thank each and everyone of you in advance for your understanding and support and we so look forward to welcoming you to enjoy Spectacular Port Stephens.
