The Willo is a one day event celebrating the life of mountain bike champion James Williamson, who died in March 2010 at the age of 26. James was a top-level XCO and XCM rider. He was passionate about the sport in every way, as well as being an Australian and World 24 hour champion.
The Willo was set up in honour of James by his aunt Meg Patey and is managed by Rocky Trail Entertainment. Proceeds from the event support junior development with annual training camps held. The event has been known for its friendly vibe encouraging a strong sense of camaraderie amongst all riders. It attracts elite riders as well as riders from all levels and ages. It also provides the opportunity for juniors to experience their first thrill of racing.
Originally scheduled to take place in Wingello State Forest the event had to be moved to Sparrow Hill as the original trails were destroyed by the devastating bushfires on the Southern Highlands. Plans are to return to Wingello when trail conditions permit it.
The Willo welcomes all riders and families and wishes everyone a safe day riding at Sparrow Hill in Canberra.
