Each race starts with the kiwi tradition of a 'bark off' with local shepherd's and their huntaways.
When it's time to go the shepherd's whistle, the dogs bark, then the riders race!
Riders get to listen to the pipe band play as they set off on their adventure. Where else in the world can you get to listen to the local pipe band play in front of the most photographed church in the country!
