The Kokoda Challenge in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland returns on Saturday, 9 May, to kick off the national event series for 2026. Beginning in the picturesque hinterland town of Kenilworth, this much-loved event welcomes more than 1,300 participants each year to take on an unforgettable hiking experience through the Imbil State Forest, with 18km, 30km and 48km courses available.
As Australia’s largest team endurance event, the Kokoda Challenge is driven by a powerful dual purpose: to honour the legacy of Australian soldiers who served in the Kokoda Campaign, and to raise vital funds for the Kokoda Youth Foundation, whose transformative programs have supported young Australians since 2004. Challengers are rewarded with greater resilience, self-confidence and teamwork, and the satisfaction of knowing they have made a real difference.
Now in its 21st year, the Challenge continues to grow in popularity, attracting thousands of participants nationwide each year. Teams of 2–5 must stick together as they navigate rugged bush trails, steep climbs and creek crossings - drawing on the four pillars of the Kokoda Spirit: courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice.

Whether taking part with friends, school mates or family, the Sunshine Coast Kokoda Challenge offers a unique opportunity to test your limits, strengthen connections, and be part of an event that makes a meaningful difference.
