SNOWY MOUNTAINS NSW – As the country starts to emerge from COVID-19 there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon as athletes eagerly look forward to the mountain bike action that will be on offer at the Snowies Mountain Bike Festival as it returns to Australias iconic Snowy Mountains in February 2021.
The Festival includes three action packed days of mountain biking from 5-7 Feb 2021.
The Snowies MTB Festival will have a slightly different format in 2021 in that rider numbers will be limited, and there will be no Ricochet downhill stage in Thredbo Resort. This is due to COVID-19 restrictions, where on-mountain capacity needs to be managed within Thredbo Resort. However, the Thredbo Mountain Bike Park is set to open for daily operations from 21 November in what will be a huge summer of riding in the Snowy Mountains.
On the bright side the festival will still include all the legendary riding that athletes have come to know and love, with 4 stages across 3 days hosted with COVID Safe plans in place that will usher in a New Event Normal.
2021 will include two course options including the 75k Brumby and 110k Wild Brumby, with the Wild Brumby including the popular Snowy Legends Descent, taking riders from Thredbo, in the shadow of Australia’s highest peak, Mt Kosciuszko, to Lake Crackenback, and on to Gaden in Jindabyne along the celebrated Lower Thredbo Valley Track (TVT).
The festival is part of a month-long MultiSport Festival in the Snowy Mountains which also includes the TreX Australian Cross Triathlon Championships and the Trail Run Australia.
The stage race is based out of one of the regions most popular resorts at Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa making this more than just a mountain bike race. Athletes and families have the opportunity to enjoy the 4.5-star facilities on offer at the resort; and to experience the hospitality and local fare that only the Snowies region can deliver.
Riders will join the mountain men and women in the NSW high country to be tested by rugged mountain terrain, flowing single tracks, remote wilderness trails, colossal ascents, and awe-inspiring downhills.
The Snowy Mountains holds a special place in Australias history and the Snowies MTB Festival offers riders the opportunity to discover the heart of this iconic destination with its spectacular mountain panoramas, riverside vistas, epic suspension bridges, and a race against our very own Man from Snowy River.
The magic of the Snowy Mountains is that all of this memorable and diverse riding is located within an area of just 35km. That means its easy and convenient for riders, with a maximum travel time to stages of just 20mins.
No need to pack up and move each day, riders can choose accommodation options ranging from camping to 5-star in the area, or, even choose to stay right in the heart of the action at Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa. Imagine, just hop out of bed, take in a leisurely breakfast and then jump on your bike and enjoy the ride.
In 2021 the festival will offer a massive $5,000 cash prize purse for the Elite category, but its not just about the elite racers. Hundreds of weekend warriors, groups of mates, club members and families will join the festival in the age group stage race and Sundays 45k, 30k and 15k events.
Many have discovered this event is more than just a mountain bike stage race and the experience of joining our very own Man from Snowy River and his mountain bred brumby in a race to the final stage is a memory not to be forgotten.
Event organisers are excited to announce that they will be offering a one day only entry special where riders can enter the entire Wild Brumby course for $299 or the Brumby course for $259. A massive $200 saving on the standard entry. But this will be for one day and for the first 50 entrants only, so riders will need to be quick as entries sold out in the first 15mins last year.
