We have been monitoring recent weather conditions in South East Queensland, and with the current weather and forecasts for the next two weeks in the Sunshine Coast Region, we have had to make the very difficult decision to reschedule the May event to October 2022.
This has been a very difficult decision and we understand that it will be very disappointing for all involved, however, an early judgement has been made with the best interests of athletes, volunteers, providers and the local community at the heart of that decision.
With recent rain events over the past month the event site is currently at saturation point and this has been further exacerbated by more rain over the weekend. In addition to this, the current rain forecast from the Bureau of Meteorology is for between 215mm to 390mm of rain to fall over the next week in the area.
This morning, National Parks have understandably advised that we are not permitted to access the site and additionally, based on the rain event, the site would need a few weeks of full sunshine to dry out before it could be utilised for an event. Unfortunately, as well as the extreme rain event forecast for this week, the long term forecast for next week is also forecasting further rain meaning that the likelihood that the site would not be available for the event dates is extremely high, significantly increasing the likelihood that the event would have to be cancelled at short notice.
Based on this advice and the high likelihood of a last-minute cancellation we have made the decision to make an early call based on the best information available. Like everything, we cant predict the future, and it is possible that the weather may improve next week, however, given the time the site would take to become usable we believe this is the right decision rather than risking a last minute cancellation which would have a major impact on athletes, volunteers and providers.
The new date for the rescheduled festival is 22nd and 23rd October, 2022 and all event details remain the same. As per the event reschedule policy all entries will automatically be transferred to the new event dates, however, if you already have confirmed commitments on these dates, please refer to details in the event reschedule policy and email us at info@in2adventure.com.au with full details by 18th May 2022.
After two challenging years we were so looking forward to the event and 98% of the planning and work has already been done. This is such a difficult decision and very disappointing for the event team and all the amazing people who work with us to make this event happen. We also understand that it will be disappointing for all the competitors who were looking forward to a weekend of racing on the beautiful Sunshine Coast, however, we hope you will understand that this decision is made with the best interests of our athletes in mind which continues to guide our decision making in all matters.
We thank you all in advance for your understanding.
