Thats a wrap for the 2024 Max Adventure Race Series event at Lake Macquarie! What a fantastic day for all the Classic, Novice and Kids teams, trail running, mountain biking and kayaking while successfully navigating around the course.
Congratulations to every team that conquered the course. With a number of different route choices, decisions on bonus checkpoints to weigh up, and multiple legs of trail running and mountain biking all the teams were kept on their toes. The windy conditions on the lake made the kayak section an real arm-tester this year, that is for sure!
Fastest around the Classic course were That’s a Paddlin’ (Tim Doman & Eric West) just in front Belrose Bicycles (Chad & Ryan Armstrong) and Colourful Shorts (Damien Welbourne & Alex Massey). That’s a Paddlin’ crossed the finish line in just over 3hrs once bonus time was taken off, a smashing result on a tough course.
The Mixed category was taken out by Tiger Adventure Racing Maniacs (Monika Lee & Andrew Slattery) who finished just 5 minutes in front of Team Search (Lachlan Dansie & Sam Hankins) with Moore Than Likely Lost (Emma Inglis & Travis Moore) proving they certainly weren’t lost in 3rd.
Strength on the running legs proved the difference for the Female podium finishers. Coming out on top were Give it a Go (Monika Ludriks & Felicity Brown) in front of DeDo (Nichole Dean & Leah Doman) and Mums on the Run (Claire Andrews & Nikla Brown).
A real highlight this year were the large number of Novice teams participating in their first adventure race. 70 Novice teams is a record for the event with the new teams learning a lot and really getting a taste of what this great sport is all about. The Novice course had some tricky navigation as well but the teams handled it very well!
Racing around close to the Start/Finish area were the Kids course teams as well, over 20 of them having a blast, with some parents seen struggling to keep up! We look forward to seeing these younger racers continue to develop their skills and step up to the Novice course in the future.
All teams (while those over 18 anyway) were treated to an ice-cold Mountain Culture beer upon completion of the event, and they went down very sweetly we were told. Thanks Mountain Culture for your continued support and we look forward to seeing them at more Max Adventure events later in the year.
Our thanks also go to Lake Macquarie City Council for their ongoing support and sponsorship of our event, and to Cr Adam Shultz for coming along to welcome everyone on the day.
A special shoutout to all our hard-working volunteers in red who lent a hand and helped make this event happen, either out on course as a marshall or at the event centre. Without our volunteers we couldnt put on these events.
Thank you also to everyone who supported the local 1st Belmont Scouts group by purchasing the BBQ lunch kindly put on by their volunteers.
You can check out all the results and purchase photos from Outer Image on the buttons below. If you are keen for more adventure racing entries have now opened for our Sydney event in the Royal National Park on June 1!
