Established by the Mayfield Lions in 2006, the Mt. Somers MTB Classic Bike Race is an event for all ages and all capabilities.
Since its inception the race has wound its way through the historic Mt. Somers Station, home to the Acland family, without whose support the event simply would not be possible.
Bellbirds and fantails accompany riders on their journey through this rugged, captivating landscape, weaving through tussock and flax, shady forests and the flourishing native bush. Just an hour’s drive from both Christchurch and Timaru, the picturesque setting makes for a great day out, with competitors, supporters, and general onlookers coming from far and wide to enjoy the festivities.
The ride is broken down into three individual events, depending on the skill level and competitiveness of each rider, making it a day the whole family can enjoy.
